One Decatur High School (DHS) alumni you are sure to soon see on your television is class of 2019 graduate Jordan Walker. The 21st pick in the 2020 Major League Baseball draft was recently declared to be the number four overall prospect in all of Major League Baseball.

While he currently represents the St. Louis Cardinals Double-A affiliate in Springfield, Missouri, he has been an active participant in St. Louis’s expanded spring training team. Walker has impressed so far, batting .429 with three home runs in twenty-one at-bats. Walker’s placement for the start of the regular season will continue to be determined by the Cardinals organization over the coming month as he continues to get reps with the MLB team for the duration of their spring training schedule.

Regardless of whether or not Walker begins the 2023 season in the minor leagues or not, consensus around the league is that he will be called up to the majors at some point this year. According to MLB.com’s John Denton, the Cardinals are giving Walker reps in right field in preparation for a permanent position change due to the team’s depth at Walker’s third base position. This clearing of the path for Walker likely means the organization will look to move him to the big leagues sooner rather than later.
