On Mar. 23, the Decatur High School (DHS) theater program was nominated for ten Shuler Awards by the Arts Bridge Foundation. The awards show, which was created in memory of Georgia singer and Tony winner Shuler Hensley, nominates shows and individuals from Georgia high school theater productions.

DHS was nominated for the following awards for their recent production of 9-5:

Overall Production – 9 to 5

Direction – Raven Owen-Beyer

Music Direction – Elise Eskew Sparks

Featured Performer – Audrey Levy

Supporting Performer – Izzy Irby

Supporting Performer – Elena Torres

Ensemble – 9 to 5

Choreography – Maggie Flinn

Costumes – Clara Denison and Norah Jeziorowski

Lighting and Design – Saachi Bedi

A notable mention is that DHS junior Maggie Flinn choreographed all but two of the numbers in 9 to 5. While most Shuler nominations for choreography are awarded to adult directors, Flinn is nominated as a student who is also performing in the play, which is a significant accomplishment.

Last year DHS was nominated for three Shuler awards for their production of Matilda. Then-senior Bridgit Blanchard and then-junior Lorelei Calder were nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Calder won the award for her role as Ms. Honey.

The Shuler awards show will be held on Apr. 20 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
