Decatur at Model UN

Over Mar. 9 and 10, Decatur’s Model UN team was one of many to participate in a conference at Georgia State University. Model UN is an extracurricular activity where different schools meet and discuss an international issue to draft a plan addressing it. Each student assumes the role of a delegate from a different country with a Dia (an adult moderator) leading the conference.

The amount of students at each model UN conference is too large to fit them all into one conference, so there are several conferences held at each conference event, each one reaching different, or potentially similar resolutions. These smaller conferences typically have a few dozen people in them.

This conference’s topic was how private military forces should be regulated. For example, one resolution was to allow for world democracies to monitor private military companies and mercenary groups, in an effort to prevent them from any misconduct.
