After convincing wins against Northgate High School and Union Grove High School in the first two rounds of the 5AAAAA State Baseball Tournament, the Decatur High School (DHS) boys varsity baseball team was knocked out by Area 6 Region champions Centennial High School (CHS)  in a 2-0 sweep on Saturday.

After coming back from 4-1 down to tie the game in the top of the 7th inning, DHS lost narrowly in game one after CHS scored the winning run in the 7th to win 5-4.

The Bulldogs started strong in game two with a 3-run first inning but couldn’t keep up with CHS’s offense, losing 10-4 and failing to advance to the program’s second Final Four in a row.

Despite the loss, Decatur’s season is not one to be forgotten. The team went undefeated in region play to win Area 4 and had an impressive 12-2 home record during the regular season.

“The season ended in a disappointing way,” junior pitcher Raphael Schneider said. “We have a lot of talent coming back next season, and we’re already thinking about getting better for next year,” Schneider continued.
