On Feb. 28 at approximately 5:30 PM, multiple shots were fired, striking an unnamed adult near the 1400 block of Commerce Drive.

First responders arrived at the scene minutes later, and the victim was evacuated from the scene by ambulance.

At the time of the shooting, the Decatur High School (DHS) girls varsity soccer team was warming up for their region game against Lithonia High School in the DHS Stadium, which is directly adjacent to Commerce Drive. Other DHS sports teams were practicing at the nearby Ebster field and were promptly moved to the Ebster Recreation Center before moving back to DHS once it was safe. No students were reported to have been harmed during the shooting.

Due to the proximity of the shooting, DHS entered a hard lockdown, as well as postponed all pending athletic events for later dates.

The school remained on lockdown until approximately 7:15 PM, allowing Decatur Police Department (PD) time to clear the area for any further threats. At 7:21 PM, City Schools of Decatur sent an email to the community containing information regarding the incident and their response.

As of 9:00 PM, the Decatur PD has yet to reveal any information regarding suspects or arrests.
