Following the Rockdale County chemical lab fire on September 29th, Decatur has been experiencing fog and poor air quality. Despite the improvement in air quality on October 1st, a shift in winds has caused chlorine to enter the Decatur air again.
“Starting tomorrow morning, Thursday, October 3rd, you may notice haze and a chlorine smell in the air. Conditions are expected to be heaviest in the morning, clearing by noon,” according to a City of Atlanta news release statement by Calvin W. Blackburn III, Interim Commissioner of Human Resources.
Recommended health precautions include limiting exposure to the outdoors, keeping indoor air as clean as possible, and contacting health providers if experiencing symptoms such as coughing, nausea, lightheadedness, or head/stomach ache. Immunocompromised individuals are advised to be particularly careful.
Precautions are advised to remain in effect through Friday, October 4th.
