Six Decatur High School students have teamed up to lead Safe Space Club for the 2020-2021 school year. The club will focus on developing a non-judgemental environment through group discussions on a variety of topics.

Ethics team qualifies for nationals

On Feb. 12, the Decatur High School Ethics Bowl team competed via Skype against West Ashley High School in South Carolina, ultimately winning the round 3-0. The team will compete in the National High School Ethics Bowl (NHSEB) for the second time in only two years competing.

Hurricane Harvey, which has devastated Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, has produced 51.88 inches of rain, displaced 42,399 people and cost $125 billion in damage (ABC News). This category 4 hurricane first hit Aransas County, located on the Gulf of Mexico, on August 25, 2017.

Math program divides into club and team

Decatur’s first-ever math club went to four competitions in the 2016-17 school year, but struggled with commitment, according to senior Chiara Darnton. “Some people who went said, ‘This is very cool, I love this,’ and some people said, ‘This is really stressful I’m not going to do that,’’’ Darnton said. “But that’s the point of separating math club from math team because a lot of people know that competitions aren’t for them.”

Students lead Decatur’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes

It’s 7:45 on a Thursday morning. Students and teachers pepper the building before its waking hours, scurrying to get a head start on the day. As Decatur warms up for another eight hours, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) energizes the bottom of the Performing Arts Center with their second meeting of the year.
