Our Take
April 27, 2015
Carpe Diem weighs in on the moment’s hot topics.
DIGGIN’ IT
ABC’S “Blackish”
With recent events in Ferguson, people are paying closer attention to racial issues, and TV is no exception. We applaud these new shows, like “Blackish,” and the bold way they address racial issues and stereotypes with a comical twist.
Shaky Knees music festival
With a lineup featuring The Strokes, Tame Impala and Neutral Milk Hotel, we’re loving the chill feel of this three-day concert. Too bad about that $200 ticket.
Microsoft HoloLens
Microsoft’s hologram project is a step into the future. The company improved its failed Kinect technology and wowed the world with expert demos. Now, the company wants to make holograms “practical tools” to play, create and communicate.
DITCHIN’ IT
“The Daily Show” ending
First The Colbert Report, now this? After 16 years, Jon Stewart announced that he’ll leave The Daily Show by the end of 2015. We will miss his signature blend of goofiness and top news.
50 Shades of Grey, the movie
The crude and controversial movie adaptation of one of the least appealing (but best-selling) books just didn’t fly. Combine the weak plot with a cheesy Valentine’s release date, and it’s an automatic ditch for us.
iPhones
Remember when phones were just for staying in touch? Neither do we. Apple’s phones don’t do anything better or faster than competing models – they’re just money and fashion statements.
