Exonerees speak to DHS students on Wrongful Conviction Day

October 7, 2019

Oct. 2 was Wrongful Conviction Day, a holiday dedicated to those who were falsely accused and convicted of a crime they did not commit. In order to raise awareness, the Georgia Innocence Project brought two exonerees to speak at Decatur High School so that students could hear the stories of some of those wrongfully convicted.

It’s only the fifth day and students and staff are already witnessing the signs of a great year; in both size and atmosphere. DHS has reopened its doors to 917 students this school year, with a surprisingly small number of seniors compared to the size of the new freshmen class. For Decatur, this means several small changes for a bigger student body; such as the increased traffic on the roads around the school and in the hallways between classes. In the cafeteria nearly every seat is filled with, many of whom are experiencing DHS for the first time.
