Media crew experiences more than just a convention

Fresh off the election high, on Nov. 9, Decatur’s Convergence Media crew loaded up a charter bus and drove to Indiana, home of future Vice President Mike Pence.

Thirty of the sophomores, juniors and seniors that produce Decatur’s media along with adviser Jon Reese, chemistry teacher Jessica Mayer and IB Coordinator Cheryl Nahmias were on their way to the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) convention held in Indianapolis.

The drive took the crew through north Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and into Indiana. They passed fields, lakes, the National Corvette Museum and even the Fruit of the Loom headquarters.

This year’s NSPA was a gathering of nearly 4,000 journalism and yearbook students from middle and high schools across the country.

In addition to the convention, taking place Thursday night through Sunday morning, the group embarked on various site-seeing expeditions and group-bonding activities.

Take a look at the photos below to get a glimpse into this year’s NSPA trip.
