Over 40 students attended the soccer meeting held after school in room 115  on Aug 25th. Coach David Harbin and Kurt Collins were in attendance as well as several assistant coaches.

Prospects from every class came to the meeting, where they were given a small handout asking them to assess their goals for the season.

Sophomore Shola Richardson attended the meeting.

“It was a great way to kick off the season,” he said. “I’m ready.”

Harbin discussed information about the upcoming season and welcomed new players. He also revealed that soccer workouts will begin next week.

“I’m not sure I’m ready for those,” Richardson laughed. “Even though workouts are hard, it’s a great way to bond with my future teammates while getting fit at the same time.”

IMG_7234Last year, the DHS Varsity won the 3A state championship. The soccer program was moved to 5A this year, but junior and varsity member James Moore believes the team can succeed.

“I like the team we’ve got this year,” he said. “I think we can go far. We just have to come together like we did last year.”

Senior Sam Bennett agrees the team will depend on chemistry.

“There’s no way we could have won last year if we hadn’t had our chemistry,” he said. “We all supported each other. If we can do that this year, we’re gonna go far.”
