Song of the Week: Heroes and Villains

John Ellis

Wait half a second and let the Beach Boys pull you into the timelessly unique classic, “Heroes and Villains”.  Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.  The song, filled with angelic harmonies and a melody as fluid and unpredictable as a crashing wave places the audience right on the shore.  You might recognize that slide whistle from Wes Anderson’s, “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, and even though the tune was released in ’67, it fits Anderson’s directorial hand like a glove.  While it’s rare to find a song and a movie so destined to be together, “Heroes and Villains” is as independent as it was the day it first spun around the turntable.  So sit down, take a breather and indulge in three and a half minutes of beachy bliss.
