Snowy with a chance of Gilmore

Oy, with the poodles already! Gilmore girls Lorelai and Rory are making a comeback this November after a nine-year hiatus. The popular TV series that originally aired on The CW is returning just in time for the cold weather that Lorelai loves, and diehard fans are reaching for their coffee and poptarts.

The fast-talking, fast-paced world of Stars Hollow has encouraged young women to assert their places in school, careers and relationships since 2000. Although Lorelai and Rory both have their share of male suitors, the guys come and go while the girls are there to stay. Neither woman establishes that they need a man in their lives. While this message should be made more applicable to people with different romantic preferences, it resonates.

The diversity of personalities in the series leaves nothing to be desired, and each character has equal screen time. Lorelai’s sarcastic, fun energy perfectly compliments Rory’s Ivy League, no-nonsense persona. Luke’s harder-on-the-outside, softer-on-the-inside presence welcomes viewers who may be intimidated by Lorelai and Rory’s stronger characteristics. Overall, “Gilmore Girls” is not a show to miss.

Netflix is pulling out all the stops for the revival, including pop-up Luke’s Diner locations at various coffee shops around the country. Luke’s is the go-to coffee and food stop for the citizens of Stars Hollow. 11Alive reported that the event took place on October 3 at Java Vino, Corso Coffee and Land of A Thousand Hills Coffee Co.

Senior Lilliana Campbell drove to Java Vino for the event.

“I actually felt like I was on the set of ‘Gilmore Girls,’” she said. “They had decorated the coffee shop to look exactly like Luke’s.”

Campbell, like many, has high hopes for the revival.

“I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Lorelai and Rory,” she said. “I also really hope Jess comes back for the revival. I’ve always liked him and I hope that he will end up with Rory.”

Jess, the classic bad boy of Stars Hollow, is one of Rory’s three major suitors. Viewers are torn between Jess, boy-next-door Dean, and trust fund kid Logan. Some even want Rory to end up with a new man (or no man) by the end of the four-part revival.

While Logan is the emotionally safe choice, Milo Ventimiglia’s Jess puts the viewer right on the back of a black Harley.

Through career struggles and accomplishments, romantic complications, best friend fights and familial love, Gilmore holds a place in viewers’ hearts that’s hard to get rid of, even nine years later.
