Pogba, Ibrahimovic, Martial, and Rashford. Manchester United has assembled one of the largest groups of star talent and burgeoning players in the Premier League over the last season.

After spending millions over the summer transfer window and acquiring two of the most talented players in the world, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it seemed as though Manchester United would demolish the competition in the Premier league, banging in goals left and right.

Despite these expectations, after a bleak first 10 games the Red Devils are sitting in eighth place, an underwhelming performance after their promising player acquisitions.

The stagnant play of the club’s two big summer signings has severely impacted the club’s play.

The addition of goal scoring machine, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, sent shivers down the spines of Premier League defenses, but after 10 league games Ibrahimovic has only seen the back of the net four times, a lackluster performance compared to his last season at PSG, where he led the French first division scoring 38 goals in 31 games.

Pogba was a star player at Juventus, where he played alongside players such as Gonzalo Higuain and Gianluigi Buffon.

United’s other major signing, Paul Pogba, was a master of creating chances, showed off flashy skills, and played perfect through balls into attackers at Juventus last season.

So far this season on the other hand, Pogba has had more haircuts than goals and assists combined in the Premier league. His pathetic zero assists and one goal in eight appearances doesn’t even come close to matching the quality he displayed at Juventus, where he scored eight goals and provided 12 assists in 35 appearances.

Another addition to the club who has disappointed this season is new manager Jose Mourinho.

United signed Mourinho from Chelsea at the end of last season. Mourinho won the league with Chelsea two years ago, infamously using the “park the bus” tactic of scoring early and sitting back to defend.

Manager Jose Mourinho has been widely criticized for his tactics both at United and Chelsea.

Over the course of the first 10 games, Mourinho’s tactics have done nothing to harness the talented players with hunger to score goals. Mourinho has tried to implement his “park the bus” strategy at United, but the club’s attack is where it is successful, with powerful strikers and skillful midfielders.

On Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge on Oct. 23 his managing tactics failed once more. Chelsea scored within the first minute, and continued scoring, winning 4-0 in the end.

The combination of huge signings, young talent and a successful Premier League manager is seen as the perfect scenario for victory for most teams, but so far this season the Red Devils have thrown away an opportunity to win it all.
