DHS makes ‘Best High School’ list
U.S. News and World Report released its annual list of “Best High Schools,” and two schools local to Decatur ranked nationally.
Our very own Decatur High School ranked 13th in the state and 403rd in the nation. DeKalb School of the Arts ranked 3rd in the state and 102nd nationally.
To be eligible for a state ranking, a school must be awarded a national gold or silver medal. DeKalb School of the Arts and Decatur High School were both awarded a gold medal.
U.S. News and World Report found that DeKalb School of the Arts has a 16:1 student teacher ratio while Decatur High School has a 14:1 student teacher ratio. The report also says that at DeKalb School of the Arts Advanced Placement participation is 100 percent, compared with 78 percent at Decatur High School.
At Decatur High School, the student population is 50 percent male and 50 percent female, with a total minority enrollment of 45 percent. At DeKalb School of the arts, the student population is 21 percent male and 79 percent female, with a 65 percent minority enrollment.
