Anheuser-Busch Brewery Company’s Cartersville Brewery is teaming up with the American Red Cross to send over 50,000 cans of drinking water to the victims of about 65 tornadoes in the area surrounding Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The delivery of the water to the Baton Rouge chapter of the American Red Cross began on March 3.

Louisiana Anheuser-Busch distributor worked with the American Red Cross to deliver the water to individual residents.

Anheuser-Busch is regularly known for its alcoholic beverages. As senior general manager of the Cartersville Brewery Kevin Fahrenkrog points out, this is not the first instance of the company helping with disaster relief.

“Anheuser-Busch has a longstanding history of supporting the Red Cross in their disaster relief efforts,” Fahrenkrog said in a press release. “We are proud to be part of that tradition of providing water and supplies to those affected by natural disasters nationwide.”

According to the corporation’s website, Anheuser-Busch has donated over 72 million cans of fresh drinking water to disaster relief efforts since 1988. Other recent donations include victims of Mississippi River flooding and the Flint, MI water crisis.

Sophomore Namila Cadet regularly questions the actions of such a company, but thinks that what Anheuser-Busch is doing is still admirable.

“If it’s to cover up for something [Anheuser-Busch] has done then I’m skeptical” Cadet said, “As long as it’s not pandering then I think it’s the right direction to go, especially if it’s trying to make itself a more reputable company.”

The only scandal the company faced in recent memory was in June 2015, where Anheuser-Busch was engaged in a lawsuit involving Beck’s beer. Anheuser-Busch was accused of charging customers unnecessary premiums for Beck’s as it was marketed as an imported beverage but is really made in the United States.

The motion comes during a rough tornado season for the State of Louisiana, with approximately nine twisters touching down in February alone. One disaster resulted in two casualties and the destruction of over 100 structures.
