Decatur to hold moratorium on demolitions and tree removal

If you live in the Decatur area, chances are you’ve noticed a trend: Developers are buying more and more “tear-downs” to turn into two or three story houses. Lots are also often being divided into separate sections, with houses built on each side. This means that construction crews are everywhere– either tearing down houses or building new ones.

With construction comes tree removal, as well. The Moratorium (to be voted on today) will prohibit the destruction of both healthy trees and older homes on private property. It will continue for 90 days until appropriate zoning and ordinance alterations can be agreed upon.

The full story can be read here via the AJC.

We’d like your opinion, as well. Would you rather Decatur’s development keep going strong, or take a step back?
