Diana Anthony receives military scholarship

Senior Dianna Anthony received a military scholarship from North Georgia College and State University.

“Our sophomore battalion commander went off to college and came back and told us how he had got the scholarship and I started looking more into it,” Anthony said.

In order to receive the scholarship she had to meet standards such as earning a 3.0 GPA average, achieving a high score on the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), and demonstrating physical fitness. Anthony turned in her application in December just before Christmas break and received the letter in early April.

“At first, I didn’t know whether or not I was gonna get it. But once I got it in the mail I was like, what?”

She starts school January 1st.

According to the college, “For the academic year 2012-2013, 11,000 high school seniors applied for the scholarship. Of those, 5,000 completed their applications and became board-qualified. 2,000 of the 4,000 will be awarded. Half of those were four-year scholarships, and half were three-year scholarships.”
