Omar Collington holds numerous clinics that improve athletic skills through his Over and Beyond Basketball LLC business. He also sponsors many academic contests such as the “What it Means to be a Student Athelete” essay contest which promotes focus in the class room. This essay contest will be held at Decatur on March 17.

At the beginning of the school year, Omar Collington ended his professional basketball career. Now, he transitions into beginning a business.

Collington spent his years after graduating from Decatur in 2002 playing at every level of basketball. He went on a full ride scholarship to University of North Carolina at Asheville, and then on to play professionally in Germany for seven years.

In Collington’s senior year playing at UNC Asheville, he earned player of the year and Most Valuable Player for UNC Asheville. “I felt there was a need to help lead young men and women that aspire to do what I did, to the best of my ability,” Collington said.

Starting a business was exactly how Collington could accomplish that.

Over and Beyond Basketball LLC focuses on training young people to become better athletes as well as students. “Over and Beyond Basketball LLC is my way of giving back to my community,” Collington said. “I help young men and women maximize their potential as student-athletes with hope that they learn and appreciate how much of a blessing it is to be in there positions.”

Collington looks forward to promoting his entrepreneurial business. “I am looking forward to reaching out to the Decatur community and bringing a positive light, and outlook on what it means to be a student athlete, as well as a model citizen in the community. I am looking forward to hopefully seeing success in the people that I deal with through Over and Beyond Basketball LLC.”
