Spanish music echoed throughout the cafeteria on Oct. 26, 2018 as the Decatur Spanish department held the first Spanish Heritage Performances. The event featured Decatur musicians, actors and athletes as they came together to create shows honoring Latin American culture.

A Dancer's Heart is an organization started in memory of Imani Thompson-Twine, who was a DHS rising senior when she passed away in June of 2010. During the past seven years they have partnered with the Decatur Education Foundation to provide a scholarship to a graduating female senior at DHS and provide other leadership and life skill workshops on mental illness, staying safe, financial literacy, and college help.

There are a multitude of different mental health seminars that are being added to advisement this year to help guide students through high school. Administrators, counselors and other faculty members unanimously made the decision to add these lessons so that students will have another outlet to be more aware about their own mental health.

Update: Field reopening delayed until mid-September

Decatur Stadium’s field will not open until mid-September, according to Athletic Director Rodney Thomas, after a powerful storm on June 11 flooded, damaged and closed the field. Previously, Thomas expected the field to open for practice on Sep. 1. He received word, however, from SportsTurf on Friday, Aug. 24, that the field installation would not be completed until at least mid-September.
